Fleet Share

Fleet Share is UC San Diego’s on-demand, self-service vehicle rental program designed exclusively for staff on official university business. Fleet Share provides flexible, low-cost transportation options for your department without the overhead of a dedicated fleet vehicle. Vehicles can be rented for as little as one hour and up to 30 days.
UC San Diego's Fleet Share program uses Fleetster, a platform that allows users to create a driver profile and reserve vehicles online 24/7. Vehicles are available at convenient locations around campus, including Campus Services Complex and Triton Center, with more locations coming soon. At select locations, drivers can collect and return keys at automated kiosks.
Why use Fleet Share?
- Quick and convenient: Check out a vehicle from a location near you. Reservations can be for immediate or future use.
- Cost-effective: Only pay for the time you use the vehicle with straightforward recharge rates. This significantly reduces monthly expenses when compared to owning or leasing a vehicle.

Vehicle Inspections
Pre-Trip Inspection
After collecting your keys, and before you drive, it's your responsibility to do a pre-trip inspection. Doing so ensures you are not responsible for the repair costs of any damage left by the previous driver.
- Walk around vehicle and check for damage. If found, report damage immediately via the Fleetster app or email Fleet Services.
- Check the fuel level to ensure that you have sufficient fuel/charge for your journey. Remember, the tank may not always be full.
- Check the inside of the vehicle. Report an unclean vehicle interior.
Post-Trip Inspection
When returning the vehicle, follow these instructions:
- Park:
- Park in the same Fleet Share stall where you got the vehicle.
- Turn off vehicle, including headlights and interior lights.
- Plug into EV charger (electric vehicles only).
- Post-trip inspection:
- Remove all personal belongings and trash.
- Walk around the vehicle and check for damage. If found, report immediately
- via the Fleetster app or email Fleet Services.
- Lock the vehicle.
- Return keys to the kiosk or key desk.
Fueling
You do not have to fuel the vehicle after every trip, only when the tank reaches ¼ full (25%). However, you will be recharged for the fuel that you used during your trip on a mile-per-mile basis, according to the daily UC San Diego campus fuel rate. The vehicle's telematic device seamlessly provides odometer information so the driver doesn't need to track mileage.
The driver who fills the tank will not be charged for all the fuel; they only pay for the miles driven. Filling up at 25% ensures there's enough fuel for the next driver.
Fueling on Campus
Fill up at the Campus Fuel Island, located on the east side of the Campus Services Complex across from Fleet Services, before returning the vehicle.
- Park alongside the fuel dispenser and turn off vehicle.
- Swipe the red fuel RFID fob at the Gas Boy pedestal.
- Enter the PIN (the four-digit vehicle number) and odometer reading.
- Select dispenser (1 or 2 for gasoline, 3 or 4 for diesel).
- Remove hose from dispenser and fill vehicle.
- Replace hose.
To prevent spills, do not top off. If a spill occurs, immediately use absorbent and report it to Environment, Health & Safety at 858-534-3660.
