Shared Bikes and Scooters
UC San Diego partners with Spin to provide a shared electric bicycle and scooter pilot program on campus. Approximately 200 bikes and 800 scooters are available in key campus locations. These numbers are subject to change based on demand and in line with a minimum 4:1 ratio of e-scooters to e-bikes (e.g., should demand shifts, the fleet could vary to 700 e-scooters and 300 e-bikes).
Service Area
E-bikes and e-scooters are meant for on-campus use by students, faculty and staff. If you take an e-bike or e-scooter off campus, you should return it to campus in a timely manner the same day.
Spin retrieves all locked e-bikes and e-scooters that are taken off campus in the event that a rider does not follow protocol. Spin can pick up or remove any e-bike(s) or e-scooter(s) from campus and/or other San Diego locations between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
Designated Parking Zones
When ending a trip, you must park in one of the 700 designated locations to end your ride on a Spin e-bike or e-scooter at UC San Diego. Check the Spin app to locate these parking locations. You can receive incentives for dropping your scooter at a charging hub.
Spin hubs are located at North Point Loop, Tata Hall, Marshall College, Center Hall, Sixth College, Seventh College, Pepper Canyon and Muir College.
If a ride ends outside of a designated parking zone or hub, Spin will email the user with a warning. If non-compliance continues to be a problem, Spin may issue a fine.
Spin will re-balance e-bikes and e-scooters throughout the day and ensure that they are deployed in designated parking zones.
