New for Fall 2026: Parking, Access and Micromobility Updates
Transportation Services is making several changes for fall quarter to better align parking with campus demand, make available spaces easier to find and simplify the parking experience.
From new parking inventory and updated space allocations to a new permit platform, here’s what you need to know.
New Parking at Triton Center
The new Triton Parking Structure is open to support the recently opened Triton Center and surrounding destinations.
The structure includes:
- Patient-priority parking to support patients and visitors accessing services in the Health and Well-Being building.
- Two-hour visitor parking to provide convenient access to the Triton Alumni and Welcome Center, Strauss Family Gallery, Joan & Irwin Jacobs Celebration Hall and all other programs, services, events and destinations within Triton Center.
- EV charging spaces in Triton Parking Structure are available for customers actively charging their vehicles and have a 4-hour time limit to support faster charging and greater turnover throughout the day.
For longer charging, 12-hour EV charging spaces are available in Gilman Parking Structure and South Parking Structure. Visitors should follow posted signs and parking instructions when arriving at the structure.
More B Parking Near Central Campus
A new parking area near the VA is opening this fall, adding approximately 330 B parking spaces within convenient reach of central campus.
The additional spaces will provide another option for eligible staff and graduate student commuters and will help relieve demand in other heavily used central campus parking locations.

Parking Allocations Are Changing for Fall
Parking demand changes over time. Transportation Services regularly reviews occupancy and utilization data to better align parking inventory with how the campus community is actually using it.
For fall quarter, we are adjusting parking allocations in several locations. One of our goals is to group similar parking types together, creating more predictable parking destinations and reducing the amount of time drivers spend circulating between locations looking for an available space.
Pangea Parking Structure: More Student Commuter Parking
Pangea has experienced extremely high demand for S parking while other parking types within the structure could be accommodated elsewhere.
For fall, Pangea will become a stronger destination for student commuters, with more than 350 additional S spaces.
Hopkins Parking Structure: Faculty, Staff and Graduate Student Parking
As Pangea becomes more focused on student commuter parking, Hopkins will absorb much of the faculty, staff and graduate student parking demand previously accommodated at Pangea and nearby locations.
Approximately 150 additional B spaces are being added at Hopkins, making the structure a more consistent destination for B permit holders.
Hopkins will continue to offer other parking options, including A, SR, visitor and EV parking.
Scholars Parking Structure: More All-Day Visitor Parking
Occupancy data showed available capacity in A parking at Scholars while visitor parking regularly experienced much higher demand.
In response, we are converting some of that capacity to nearly 50 additional all-day visitor spaces.
Expanded all-day visitor parking at Scholars was also a request we heard from the campus community during the previous academic year, and we are pleased to be able to make this change for fall.
Other Parking Changes
Additional adjustments are being made in Gilman, South and several surface lots to better match parking inventory with observed demand.
As parking allocations change, customers are encouraged to check posted signs each time they park, as space designations may have changed since their last visit.

D (Discount) Parking Is Changing September 18
D parking provides a lower-cost option in designated parking areas. Historically, these locations have also been available to visitors and others without UC San Diego parking privileges.
With increased demand for parking inventory and anticipated construction impacts in East Campus this fall, we need to more actively manage access to these parking areas.
Beginning September 18, D parking will be limited to employees and upper division commuter students.
Eligible customers will continue to have access to D parking.
New Parking Permit Platform
Transportation Services has launched a new customer portal designed to make it easier to access and manage your parking and transportation needs in one place.
Through the new portal, customers can purchase parking permits and transit passes, access other transportation products, manage account information and complete other parking-related transactions online.
The new platform also gives us greater flexibility to introduce parking options that better reflect how our community works, learns and commutes. This added flexibility will help us continue developing options that are simpler, more flexible and better suited to a variety of work, class and commuting schedules.

Plan Before You Park
Parking locations and space designations may look different this fall as we adjust parking to better align with demand. Before heading to campus, check your parking options and availability to find the location that works best for your permit and destination.
We’ll continue to monitor parking use throughout fall quarter and make adjustments as needed to support reliable access to campus.
E-Scooter Registration Required Beginning Fall Quarter
Beginning fall quarter, e-scooters operated or parked on UC San Diego property must be registered.
E-scooters are being addressed differently from other personal micromobility devices based on campus safety concerns, including e-scooter crashes and injuries.
The e-scooter registration process includes:
- Completing required safety training
- Confirming access to a helmet, including submitting a helmet selfie as part of registration
- Registering your e-scooter
- Displaying the required registration identification on the e-scooter
While helmet use is strongly encouraged for all riders, the registration process is intended to reinforce safe riding practices and ensure e-scooter riders understand campus requirements before operating on UC San Diego property.
Bikes, E-Bikes and Other Micromobility Devices
Registration of bicycles, e-bikes and other personal micromobility devices directly through Bike Index is strongly encouraged.
Registering your device can help identify and recover it if it is lost or stolen and provides UC San Diego with better information to support micromobility programs and infrastructure.
