Parking Permits

If you plan to park, under University of California policy you must display a valid parking permit or choose daily or hourly visitor parking. You can avoid parking by using alternative transportation.

New employees are eligible for a complimentary parking permit.

Visiting UC faculty and staff who hold permits at their home campuses may be eligible for parking discounts.

Permit Options

Transportation Services offers several parking permit options for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Compare options to select the best permit for your needs. Check parking space availability to find where to park.

Fee Schedules

The two permit fee schedules are described below.

Schedule A

Applies to products/purchases where:

  • Purchasing individual is a UC San Diego visitor, student or faculty OR  purchasing individual is a UC San Diego staff member belonging to one of these bargaining units or payroll groups: CX, K6, PA, BX, PX, A6, FX, 99, DX, M6, NX, or IX
  • Note: Employees in the RX and TX bargaining units transition to Schedule A for transactions on permits valid in July 2019 or later.  For payroll deductions, employees paid biweekly will see the change on the June 26th paycheck while employees paid monthly will see the change on their July 1st paycheck.

What Permit Fees Fund

Permit revenue is used primarily for development, maintenance and operation of parking facilities. Parking proceeds also support other mobility options that reduce environmental impact  and reduce or distribute parking demand, resulting in lower development, maintenance and operating costs.

Debt payments are exclusively associated with parking facility development and capital maintenance. Over the next several years, Transportation Services is making significant investments in replacement and expansion of parking facilities. To fund these improvements, we anticipate modest annual parking permit rate increases along with a pay station rate increase in July 2021 and every four years thereafter.

A – Faculty and Senior Staff

Who's eligible?

Staff with titles in these categories:

  • Academic
  • Manager and senior professionals (MSP)
  • Emeritus faculty and retirees
  • Designated house staff
  • Postdoctoral scholars with these title codes (payroll deduction available for title code 3252 only):
    • Postdoc-Employee (3252)
    • Postdoc-Fellow (3253)
    • Postdoc-Paid direct (3254)

Options (see fee schedules above):

  • One Year
  • Payroll
  • Alternate Schedule – park 3 days per week, any combination of days (available at parking offices only)
  • 1 Month
  • 10 Day (maximum 3 per quarter)
  • 1 Day (maximum 10 per quarter)

Purchase:

Valid A permits allow parking in these spaces:

  • A: 24/7 (reserved faculty): 24 hours daily (look for posted signs: “A permit required 24 hours a day/7 days a week”)
  • A: 24 hours daily
  • B: 24 hours daily
  • S: 24 hours daily
  • R: By permission only, 24 hours daily (look for a "Reserved ###" sign and matching stencil on the ground)
  • V: 4:30 p.m. – 7 a.m. weekdays; all day on weekends, , excluding Gilman Parking Structure
    • Never valid in Patient/Visitor spaces

B – Staff and Graduate Students

Valid B permits allow parking in these spaces:

  • B: 24 hours daily
  • S: 24 hours daily
  • A: 4:30 p.m. – 7 a.m. weekdays; all day on weekends
    • Not valid where posted: “A permit required 24 hours a day/7 days a week.”
  • R: By permission only, 24 hours daily (look for a "Reserved ###" sign and matching stencil on the ground)

S – Students

Commuter students who do not live on campus can purchase this permit.

  • S: 24 hours daily
  • B: 4:30 p.m. – 7 a.m. weekdays; all day on weekends
  • A: 4:30 p.m. – 7 a.m. weekdays; all day on weekends

SR – Residential Students

Students who  live on campus, excluding first-year students, can purchase this permit. A limited number of exceptions will be allowed each quarter for first-year students with extenuating circumstances. If you need a parking permit, contact TellTPS@ucsd.edu.

D – Discount

Who's eligible?

The D permit is a reduced rate pilot offering. While we originally intended the permit for students, we are allowing faculty and staff participation on a trial basis, but payroll deduction will not be available.

P704, P705, P782 and P386 (Although parking lot designations change periodically, we plan to allow D permits to park in lots for Fall Quarter 2019.)

  • V: 4:30 p.m. – 9 a.m. weekdays; all day on weekends, excluding Gilman Parking Structure

NW – Night & Weekend

M – Motorcycle

  • Motorized scooter
  • Motorized bike (motorbike)

Purchase:

Valid M permits allow parking in motorcycle spaces only.

V – Visitor

Who's eligible?

Anyone may purchase this permit at pay stations.
