Cycling 

UC San Diego encourages safe cycling and is working to create a more bike-friendly campus for students, faculty and staff.

Programs

  • Pedal Club for bicycle commuters
  • Spin bikesharing offers GPS-equipped bikes for convenient campus transportation at discounted rates.
  • Bicycle Helmet Program: Get a $20 voucher at Commute Solutions and bring it with your UC San Diego ID to Campus Bike & Skate to receive $20 off your helmet purchase.
  • Bicycle cages:
    • Arbor Parking Structure – secure area for 20 bikes at southwest corner of street entry level; Hillcrest Medical Center ID badge is required for access.
    • Gilman Parking Structure – secure area for 42 bikes on the second floor
      You must apply for cage access. All applicants must:
      • Have an @ucsd.edu email address and current bicycle registration
      • Complete the Gilman Bike Cage Access Cared Application and User Agreement (PDF) and bring it to Commute Solutions in the Gilman or Osler Parking Office
      • Receive confirmation of availability at the bike cage(s) requested or place on a waiting list.
      • Pay a $15 non-refundable processing fee for RFID access card key (cash, check or credit card payments accepted)
      • Email iRide@ucsd.edu a copy of current bicycle registration for any bicycle that you will park inside the bicycle cage (pnly one bicycle per user may be parked inside the bicycle cage at any time.)
      • Access card processing and activation may take up to three business days. Commute Solutions will send a confirmation email after the RFID card is activated.
